Mining adds little value to the economy (updated)

Proponents of large-scale mining argue that the economic gains from mining outweigh the costs. They point to export earnings, foreign capital, employment, and tax revenues as among the supposed economic gains.

But the real gains for the economy from the mining industry are widely being questioned, aside from its obvious environmental impact, physical displacement of communities, and human rights abuses. However despite these many issues, the Aquino administration has still made mining one of its priority areas in its Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2011-2016.
